| May. 22nd, 2009 03:34 pm Curse you counted cross stitch. Because of you, I've lost my ability to follow a stamped needlepoint pattern. Still I shall do my best to endure, and at least my current chosen pattern's vague enough that it really doesn't matter if I messed up a bit. Leave a comment | |

| Apr. 22nd, 2009 07:39 am My mother passed away earlier this morning/last night. She had breast cancer that spread to her back and then more recently to the rest of her body. She would have turned 68 this May.
While not entirely unexpected, her death was still a surprise. We just didn't expect it to be so soon.
She was my mother. I loved her even though there were many times when I hated her or was mad at her. She was a high school social studies teacher although she did take a number of years off when I was younger to become a stay at home mom. She traveled a lot; all over the US as well as South/Central America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. She was an amateur photographer and a quilter, as well as a dabbler in things like needle point, knitting, crochet, graphic design, sewing, and collage. She helped teach me to knit and do cross-stitch even though I never got the hang of needle point. She was also active in our temple. She was on the choir for a couple of years, she was part of Sisterhood and helped my dad with the Ritual Committee. She loved mystery stories and couldn't really stand anime, although I'd sort of turned her on to a few particular series (Death Note had the kind of story line she liked - if you took out/ignored the whole paranormal/Shinigami thing, and she liked the art of xxxHolic).
Is it strange that I'm gonna miss the fights/arguments we used to have; like what to watch on tv (I might actually miss Psyche and Monk even though I hated those shows), or what/how to make dinner?
The funeral is going to be held this Sunday.

| Feb. 11th, 2009 01:13 am I need to write more crack fic; something silly just for the sake of being silly and a little out there. Yeah, there's 'Troublesome', which I guess can be considered crack on a couple of levels but it just doesn't /feel/ like a crack fic to me. And I haven't even *thought* of touching _A Harry Potter Story_ in *years*. But I'm reading a pretty good Bleach crack fic, and it's giving me indistinct ideas, so... I need to write more crack.
Only I have no real ideas.
Thus I'm open for suggestions although there's no guarentee that anything'll actually be written. But I'd like to get some suggestions anyway. Current Mood: bored

| Jan. 8th, 2009 08:51 pm Manly men. In pink! Other than Vegeta from DBZ and Quatre from GW, what other male anime (or even non-anime) character wears pink - and is not considered (by most anyway) to be a sissy. 2 comments - Leave a comment | |

| Dec. 1st, 2008 08:31 am My mom might have had a stroke last night.
The EMTs took her to the hospital about ten minutes ago. My dad went with her; I'm waiting for his call.
Good news.
I just heard from my dad. It wasn't a stroke. Her blood sugar was just too low, which is a lot more easily treated than a stroke. Which means that dad and I have some nagging to do when she gets home about her eating enough and making sure to test before she goes back on the diabetes meds (assuming she's taken off them for the time being that is).

| Jun. 9th, 2008 04:29 pm I need help figuring out something for a fic I'm writing. I need an object to stick the spirits of Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw in as well as someone to act as their reincarnation and receive the object. The object should be something that can be reasonably carried during the course of a normal day; preferably something that can be worn and should not be out of place for being an artifact from the time of the Founders. For those familiar with the anime/manga Yu-Gi-Oh, the objects will act like the Millenium Puzzle or Millenium Ring and the relationship between the founder and their reincarnation is like that of Yugi or Bakura and their respective spirits (at least in terms of how it functions).
Slytherin is already taken care of in this manner. Leave a comment

| Jan. 7th, 2008 08:59 am Ohayocon Day 3 It ended up that I spent most of the night hanging out and being social. Which made the last day of the con a complete wash. I didn't get up until pretty late, and wasn't feeling all that good so I ended up spending the whole day in my room basically asleep. But what can you do. Leave a comment | |

| Jan. 5th, 2008 09:37 pm Ohayocon Day 2 Today was mostly fail. I ended up oversleeping and not getting up till around 2 in the afternoon, and really didn't do much. I had some epic fail in terms of my costume; one of my waraji (straw sandals) decided that it was no longer going to stay tied, so I had to walk around in my stocking feet all day, my top kept coming untucked, and my crappy plastic ninja sword started to really come apart. But what do you expect for three bucks in China Town. It's not coming home with me.
I did do a couple of panels, even though I spent a good bit of time hanging around my hotel room; more meh today. I hit up the Naruto panel, which was fun, and the Fullmetal Alchemist panel, which was also fun. Tomorrow I'm so gonna start picking up a couple of the FMA manga - mostly to read on the plane (cause go knows I won't be able to really fit it in my suitcase; at least not without some major repacking and treating it like that puzzle game with all those shapes).
The last panel of the night for me was con horror stories, presented by a bunch of Guests whom I have no clue what so ever they are famous for. Which is really par for the course since I rarely know who's who. God it was funny; so funny I might've peed myself a bit. And there were a good number of stories too; enough to run about an hour over the schedualed time. The night was capped off by some elevator fun, and getting hit on by a cute drunk which was a great plus. And I learned a bit of Italian which was cool.
A part of me is disapointed with myself. I haven't had anything to drink, and I haven't hit any of the dances/parties. I just don't feel like it. Which is odd since that's I think would be right up my alley. It's probably for the best though. Leave a comment

| Jan. 4th, 2008 11:29 pm Ohayocon Day 1 So the first day of the con was today. Got up had breakfast, stood on line for badge, and then had a bunch of hours until anything was ready to do. I hit the dealers room a couple of times; got some really cool stuff there too. Although now the concern is how to fit it all in the suitcase for the trip home. Damn you bag o' random crap (tm), my one true weakness.
I went to a couple of the panels, although most of what they offered didn't really appeal to me all that much; it happens. One was a panel on kitsuke, or for those wanting an English translation, how to properly put on a kimono. Even for a married woman, very complicated with many bits and bobs that I will forget the names of by the time I get home if not sooner. Which is why I bought the book on the subject that was offered at the end of the panel. Another panel I went to was a comedy one called 'Why Your Anime Sucks', which was pretty funny even if the guys running it were making fun of some of my favorite animes. But that's all right since I'm a firm believer in having the ability to laugh at one's self. Although I was tempted to do one bit of heckling... one of the comments made (against) Gundam Wing was on the feeling of behind the scenes homosexuality of the main characters, which was pointed out as being so obvious and all that only a moron couldn't (or wouldn't) see it. I so wanted to say: Duh. Why did you think we/I got into it.
YAOI FANGIRLS RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The last thing I went to was an adult rated anime version of Who's Line is it Anyway. It was 100% improve. God was that funny. And full of gayness. The (mostly male) cast spent a lot of time hitting on each other, touching each other, putting each other in somewhat compromising positions, and in general getting this whole gay vibe going. And one of the last things they did was this puppet skit, where four guys and four girls from the audiance were picked to preform. First the guys got to act as puppeteers and set the girls in a (fairly tame) yuri flavored tablue. Then it was the girls turn. While the all girl bit was somewhat tame yet still a bit naughty, the girls went to town with the guys. Very much a clothed orgy in terms of positioning. The guy running the show did point out that the girls did tend to be a bit more... mean and viscious... than the guys; but that only goes to show that you do not cross yaoi fangirls.Leave a comment

| Jan. 3rd, 2008 12:24 pm Ohayocon Day 0 Ok. So I made it to Ohio for the con safe and sound. The flight was pretty smooth and quiet; I managed to catch a bit of rest but it admittedly wasn't much since I'm so excited about the con and all. I made it to the hotel with little hang up.
The hotel's nice. I've got a fair amount of space, but not much of a view. There's a food court with things like Subway and pizza nearby in the hotel/convention center complex so I don't have to go outside to grab something relatively cheap to eat.
There was a small snafu with snagging the net for my stay; one of the letters in my intended user name somehow never got entered which caused some confusion. It's fixed now (duh). Current Mood: hyper

| Jan. 3rd, 2008 02:51 am I'll Sleep on the Plane Well, I'm pretty much all packed for Ohayocon this weekend. And since my flight leaves at 8 am, I'm aiming to get to the airport around 6 which means that I'll leave for the airport around 5 and in order to avoid oversleeping I'll reach 5 am by staying up all night. Not that I could sleep even if I wanted to; way, way too excited.
It's crazy. I'm wearing three pairs of socks, two of which are nice woolen ones that I knitted myself, and my feet are still freezing cold.
Updates depending on if I can get to the internet and be bothered to do so. Current Mood: hyper

| Dec. 27th, 2007 12:15 am Of This and That Yeah, I'm not the best when it comes to updating this thing. Oh well.
=============================================================================================================== Earlier this month, Runescape added in a feature they called the Grand Exchange. I love it. It takes all the hassle out of buying and selling things through player to player trade; something I was never very good at. But thanks to the Grand Exchange, I don't have to worry about it. I've already made over a million gp, and bought myself a nice abby whip.
===============================================================================================================
I baked about two dozen cookies yesterday. Yummy molasses ones with a wonderful amount of ginger in them. Didn't take very long even though I made them by hand (the way I firmly believe cookies are to be made; it's the way I grew up). I'll try my best not to go through them too quickly.
===============================================================================================================
I saw the movie production of Sweeney Todd on Sunday. All I can say is OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!1 I *loved* the stage production I saw (the modern one; not the Angela Landsbury one). And the movie was just as good and... ALAN RICKMAN SINGS! And the cinematography... Ok, so my parents were more into that aspect than I was, them being photographers and all... but once again Tim Burton has pulled out the creepy goth for good effect. He was a good choice to direct.
===============================================================================================================
Now that I've got the problems with Nightlife figured out, I'd love to find a Temari and a Kankuro for my Sims 2. I already have Gaara and Naruto, among others, and would love to be able to flesh out the (living) Kazekage family.
===============================================================================================================
I managed to beat the first Ouendan on the easy level. For someone who so rarely beats video games and has sucky rhythm, that was a very cool thing to be able to do. Now if I can only get passed the last levels on the second Ouendan and Elite Beat Agents (the American/English version of Ouendan).

So starts the countdown.

| Sep. 24th, 2007 11:48 pm My Money is Ready... Recently, Toon Disney had a Digimon semi-marathon of the later four Digimon movies. And next week, they're going to air season five. As a Digimon fan, this makes me very happy.
I enjoyed the four movies that aired, and I'm looking forward to season five (two words: Adult Digidestined
It's a shame that Digimon isn't offered on DVD. I would love to be able to plunk down my cash in order to get all five complete seasons plus all the movies. Of course this would be in standard anime DVD format; dual language English/Japanese with subtitle capability, uncut, original Japanese content. Leave a comment

| Jun. 8th, 2007 07:09 pm What is it with store owners NOT posting the building number of their store anywhere? It's almost as if they don't want anyone to find them after looking up their address! Ok, so it's not every store in the City does this... but why is it that every time I need to find a place from a street address, I can never do so easily becuase I can't find any of the building numbers of the places near it.
At least I managed to (eventually) find the costume store I was looking for and got varrious stuff I needed. Even if the people at Game Stop forgot to put the AC adaptor I bought for my DS in the bag with the games I also got.
Oh well. Current Mood: annoyed

| Apr. 25th, 2007 10:27 pm ... I think I need a pair of new panties Major freak out time here folks.
I am now missing the back passenger side window. Well, not all of it; most of it's now in my backseat. I do not know exactly how it happened.
All I know is that, after getting into my car after work tonight and closing the door my window ended up inside my car. All I heard was the glass falling into the car; no smashing sound like something hitting my window to shatter it.
I work the evening shift of a fast food place in a tiny little strip mall near my home. Usually by the time I get out of work, the parking lot's pretty empty. You *do not* want to suddenly be missing a window in a deserted parking lot at night. Current Location: home safe Current Mood: scared

| Apr. 8th, 2007 01:32 am Weeee! After much trepidition, innumerable 'scarves', four hats, a handbag with cabeling, and three pairs of socks, I am finally trying my hand at making a sweater. And yes I find knitting a sweater to be more difficult and intimidating than knitting up a pair of socks.
But I am sweater shy no longer. I've found a pattern that I find is simple enough for me to follow without a headache. And I have begun. So far it's easy (ribbing for the bottom), and even when it starts getting into the tricky parts (armhole and shoulder shaping), I can kind of 'see' it even without *seeing* it done. Triumph, tradgedy, or something in between, I'll post when I'm done. Current Mood: chipper

| Mar. 3rd, 2007 02:54 am Friday Night Report One thing it seems I left out of my last Friday Night Report, was the fact that I met a guy who I now am dating. Of course at the time, I didn't realise that we were going to hook up like we did so it makes sense that I didn't say something.
Tonight, after hanging out for a bit at his place, we ended up heading out for a (late) dinner at a cool Asian fusion resturant near the bar where we had met. The food was good, and we enjoyed ourselves. After that we went over to the bar for a couple of hours. It was fun, but there was no band which kind of sucked. The music the DJ was spining was good, so that made up for the lack of live band, and we ran into one of my BF's coworkers which was kind of cool. During dinner I had some sake, and at the bar I had a beer, a tequila sunrise, and a bailiys on the rocks - along with a taste or two from what my BF was drinking.
After a brief stop was made at White Castle where for the first time in my life I tried one of their burgers. While I don't love them, at least I'll eat them - which is a step up from the burgers at Wendys. Current Mood: drunk
